THE EFFECT OF AUDIOBOOKS ON STUDENTS' SPEAKING COMPETENCE OF THE 8TH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP NEGERI 1 BANJAR IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2016/2017

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada atau tidaknya perbedaan yang signifikan dalam prestasi berbicara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan audiobooks sebagai media pembelajaran dan siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan media yang biasa digunakan dalam pembelajaran. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan SMP Negeri 1 Banjar dan penentuan sampel penelitian menggunakan teknik Cluster Random Sampling. Kelas VIII E terpilih sebagai kelas ekperimen dimana media audiobooks digunakan untuk mengajar speaking dan kelas VIII G terpilih sebagai kelas control dimana teknik menggunakan media biasa dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris digunakan. Hasil analis data menunjukan siswa di kelas eksperimen medapatkan hasil yang lebih baik dari pada siswa di kelas kontrol. Hal ini dibuktikan oleh hasil statistik deskriptif yang menunjukkan nilai rata-rata kelas eksperimen adalah 79.84 sedangkan nilai rata-rata dari kelompok control adalah 76.06. Selain itu, hasil dari uji t-test juga menunjukkan bahwa nilai tob lebih besar dari tcv tersebut. Nilai tob itu 2.187 sedangkan nilai tcv adalah 1.245 (α = 0,05). Ini berarti bahwa terdapat perbedaan prestasi berbicara yang signifikan antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan audiobooks sebagai media dan mereka yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan media pembelajaran yang biasa. Jadi dapat disimpulkan bahwa media audiobooks dapat meningkatkan prestasi siswa dalam berbicara.Kata Kunci : audiobiooks, media pembelajaran biasa, kompetensi dalam berbicara.
This study aimed at investigating whether or not there was significant difference in speaking competence between students who were taught by using audiobooks as the teaching media and those who were taught by conventional teaching media. The research design used in this study was Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population in this study was eigth grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Banjar and the samples of the study were selected by using Cluster Random Sampling. Class VIII E was assigned as the experimental group that was taught by using audiobooks and class VIII G as the control group that was taught by using conventional teaching media. The result of the data analysis showed that students in the experimental group performed better than the students in the control group. It was proven by the result of the descriptive statistics that showed the mean score of the experimental group was 79.84 while the mean score of the control group was 76.06. The result of the t-test also showed that the value of the tob was higher than the tcv. The value of the tob was 2.187, while the value of the tcv was 1.245 (α = 0.05). It means that there was a significant effect of students’ speaking competence who were taught using audiobooks and those who were taught by using conventional teaching media. It was concluded that audiobooks as the media in teaching and learning English can improve students’ speaking competence.
